Bernadette L. Peters, born Bernadette A. Lazzara in Ozone Park Queens New York 28 February 1948 is a songwriter/singer and a writer of children's books. Over the course of her career for five decades her appearances have been in television and musicals along with solo shows and recorded albums. She has been nominated for 7 Tony Awards and won two and eight Drama Desk Awards. Grammy Awards have been won by four Broadway recording of cast performances in which Peters has appeared. Peters began her acting career performing on stage during the 1960s when she was an teen, then later in the 1970s, she worked in TV and in film. Apart from her appearances on The Muppet Show, The Carol Burnett Show, and in other TV work she also earned praise for the roles she been in Annie and Silent Movie. In the 80s She returned to Broadway which was where for more than three decades she was one of Broadway's top performers. She also has recorded six solo albums and several singles. She has also recorded several cast albums. In addition, she performs regularly in her own solo show. Peters, who has been acting for films and on TV in which she was awarded an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe. She was also nominated for 3 Emmy Awards.
